President Trump With the Second Pick…
Justice Kennedy suddenly announced his retirement from the Supreme Court, which gives President Trump’s a second pick for the Supreme Court. Trump’s first pick was a result of Justice Scalia’s death on February 13, 2016, and although Scalia’s death happened during Obama’s final term, Congress held out on approving former President Obama’s pick until Trump took office. With that being said, will the Democrats retaliate in a similar fashion?
Another interesting development to look into is the potential opposition to Trump’s picks. For instance, Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine), is known for voting against Trump’s policies.
Another senator to keep an eye on is Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who is known for her more central-leaning politics. With President Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, and because his nomination could be blocked by one Republican vote if every Democrat votes against President Trump, Senator Murkowski’s vote could be the deciding factor. Will Senator Murkowski vote for or against Trump’s Supreme Court nominee by the end of August?
