Hotel Transylvania 3 won over the box office last weekend, bringing in a whopping $44 million on its opening weekend. It’s a sequel showdown at the box office this weekend, and the two competing films could not be more different. The feel-good ABBA musical, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, is tracking to pull around $30-35 million, while Denzel Washington’s intense action flick, The Equalizer 2, is looking to gross in the $25-30 million range. Tis the season for documentaries on the big screen. Last weekend, Whitney, on the life of Whitney Houston, performed well at the box office, and RBG and Won’t You Be My Neighbor have already been relatively huge hits. This weekend, McQueen will give us a sneek peak into the life of the fashion designer Alexander McQueen. Will McQueen rake in $5M in its opening weekend?

The documentary examining the early years of fashion legend Alexander McQueen is currently pulling a rare perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Will it remain at 100% as more reviews filter in?

In other news MoviePass’s surge pricing feature went live, causing frustration is movie goes. With this new pricing structure, customers are hit with a $3-$5 surcharge for opting to see one of the new releases. Some argue that even with this extra fee, customers will still remain loyal to the movie subscription service, while others predict that many will leave and sign up for the more transparent alternative with AMC.

That’s it for this week. See you at the movies.
