A Playlist for a Homebody’s Valentine

I swear when February was named the old time naming people knew we’d be saying words that begin with F a lot this month and just decided they liked the alliteration. February is freezing. It’s the time of the year you know in two months it could maybe be 60 degrees. The warmth is nowhere to be found.

So forgive me, for wanting to stay indoors this Valentine’s Day. It’s too cold to pretend I want to put on heels and trudge through the snow. I get that it’s supposed to be a holiday celebrating love, but do you know what I really love? Not having frostbite. Imagine instead of squeezing into that dress that fit before the holidays, wearing sweatpants and fuzzy socks. Now that’s romantic.

Because Valentine’s Day can still be specials indoors, here’s a playlist to listen to during your at home holiday. It pairs well with red wine and a heart shaped pizza (significant other optional):

1. Unchained Melody- Norah Jones

This classic melody grew a bit tired with the original being in every romantic movie in the 90’s. Norah Jones gives it a refreshing new spin and sets the mood for the rest of the night.

2. Young as the Morning, Old as The Sea- Passenger

3. Banana Pancakes- Jack Johnson

4. Tuyo- Rodrigo Amarante

My husband made me include this in our wedding playlist because he heard it in Narcos. I’m sure it’s romantic, but I can’t get the image of Pablo Escobar out of my head when I hear it. Hopefully you have more luck.

5. On Top of The World- Imagine Dragons

6. Marry Me- Train

*Warning* Don’t play this song if you bought your girlfriend a ring. Also, for the love of God, don’t buy your girlfriend a ring on Valentine’s Day.

7. I Do- Colbie Caillat

8. A Thousand Years- Christina Perry

9. Falling Slowly- Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova

This song, from cult classic Once, never fails to make my heart feel like it needs a break from feeling. It’s a love song in the simplest of terms.

10. Sugar- Maroon 5

11. The Cure- Lady Gaga

12. L’italanio- Toto Cutogno

Nothing goes better than that extra large pizza you just ordered than Italian love songs.

13. Love On The Brain- Rihanna

14. What A Wonderful World- Louis Armstrong

15.Free- Zac Brown Band

Okay, country haters, this is where I lose you. But before you close the computer down and tell someone you like “all kinds of music” just listen to the song. Zac Brown serenades his love, by telling her they’re broke and that’s okay. “Just as free as we’ll ever be.” It’s sweet and there’s no banjo so just try it out.

16. Five Years Time- Noah and The Whale

17. Into It- Camilo Cabello

“I’m not a psychic but I see myself all over you” Romantic af.

18. Perfect- Ed Sheeran

I tried to keep the Ed to a minimum. Tried.

19. You & I- John Legend

20. Make You Feel My Love- Adele

I’m ending the playlist with a cover just the way it began. Adele sings this song in a way that could make anyone fall in love.

I made a Spotify playlist so all you have to do is order the pizza and pour the wine.

Enjoy your Wednesday night romance. Hopefully this playlist can change that F word you think of in February… to fantastic.
